Hi! I’m Lauren, the creator of Loca Food. I grew up in the South on a diet heavy with meat and dairy, considering macaroni & cheese to be a vegetable! I ate my way thru Little Rock cheese dip, Memphis barbecue, and New Orleans seafood before moving out to San Francisco and (after a good fight!) finally giving up cheese dip and thriving on a plant-based diet. My friends and family back home took notice and became interested in learning more about a plant-based diet, but noted cheese dip as something they could never give up. They struggled to find dairy alternatives available in their local stores and at accessible price points. Some friends even had food allergies to nuts. My aha moment came when I noticed that the majority of dairy alternative products on the market were made from nuts and found primarily at specialty grocers. So I left a 10 year career in tech behind to build Loca Food with a laser-focused mission to make clean, whole foods accessible to all. I want to make healthy eating easier by reinventing comfort foods with simple, nutritious allergy-free ingredients that everyone can enjoy. Our first product is the reinvention of an American classic - cheese dip!

Within just a few months from launch, Loca is already found in grocers throughout the Bay area, like Berkeley Bowl, ships nationwide through, and landed in Oracle Park at The Garden. Baseball fans can find Loca Nachos featuring Impossible chili - making this the first plant-based nacho ever offered at the stadium. The dish has been a home run with Giants fans!

The buzz is real & Loca is here to enrich the diets of people all over the nation. Food Business News called us one of five standout products at the 2019 Winter Specialty Food Show, and Mintel has said our “alternatives taste better…” I just pitched as a Finalist at Food Funded 2019 and fans are loving our sauce. One new Loca fan gave us the ultimate seal of approval saying, "I'm from Texas and this is legit!"

Loca plant-based cheese sauce is made with non-GMO ingredients and is free from added flavors and sugars. It works great as a dip, sauce or topping; on tacos, burgers, french fries, chips, bake potatoes, pretzels... the possibilities are endless! Our dip is crazy good for you and the planet - and I’m having a blast bringing this healthy alternative to the world!

It is estimated that nearly 50% of the fresh water available in the US is used to support the livestock industry.* The livestock industry alone produces more greenhouse gas emissions than all forms of transportation combined. Additionally, it has been estimated that nearly 65% of crops grown in the US go directly to animal feed.

Last but not least, removing the cow improves animal welfare.

California is one of the few places in the US to grow almonds and the state is in a serious drought. Almonds and Cashews require averages of 400-1000 gal. water/lb. while potatoes require averages of just 46 gal./lb.*

Nut allergies are on the rise. It is estimated that up to 15 million Americans have food allergies and growing! Eight major food allergens – milk, egg, peanut, tree nuts, wheat, soy, fish and crustacean shellfish – are responsible for most of the serious food allergy reactions in the United States.
